Abe is a one-time character and one of two protagonists of the Busy World of Richard Scarry episode "Abe and Babe's Christmas Lesson." He is a gray cat. His sister is Babe, and they live with their (somehow single) mother.
When not dressed for snowy weather, he wears a light blue shirt with a white collar and buttons and some blue-violet pants. Out in the snow, however, he wears an orange coat with cream trim, a yellow hat, blue pants, yellow mittens, and brown boots.
It is shown that somehow, they have been bad, such as by running in the house and ending up wrecking the Christmas tree. However, there is an even bigger tree in their front yard. Because of the wreck of their indoor tree, the next morning, they are never aware that they even got presents, so when they check the tree outside, they find a big bag full of coal under it and think they are being punished for being bad.
When the a neighborhood power outage prevents every family from cooking dinner, Abe and Babe decide to do something nice: share their coal with them so they can have barbecues. They even show it to their mother (which she initially mistakes for dirt). However, they and their mother find Mr. Frumble (in just his pajamas and night cap) finding only one coal briquette, much to his dismay. It's when Abe and Babe find out it wasn't a present from Santa to them. Earlier, Mr. Frumble had ordered coal for his furnace, but accidentally had it sent to Abe and Babe's house due to an error in one of the digits of his house number. Because of this, Abe and Babe offer to share their Christmas dinner with Mr. Frumble. Abe tells Babe that being nice is not so bad.
