Billy is a dog who appears to be a bully at first (only it was a mistaken understanding), but he has a heart of gold. He is good friends with Huckle, Hilda, Lowly, Sally, and others. Billy Dog is a gruff but friendly dog.

He first appears in the episode "Billy Dog's Bad Day" from The Busy World of Richard Scarry, moving to Busytown with his mother and meeting the other characters. He last appears in the episode "There Really Is an Easter Bunny!".

Billy lives with his single mother, Professor Dog, who is an astronomer at an observatory. He is a bulldog/boxer mix. In some episodes, Billy wears glasses, just like his mother. He begins to wear them in "Billy Dog Gets Glasses" after his poor eyesight was noticed by his mother and friends. Notably, he is usually seen wearing glasses even after this episode, showing subtle continuity.

He is given major roles in episodes as the series progresses, including "Hilda for President" (where he wins the title of class president) and won the spelling competition in "The Spelling Bee."

Billy is voiced by William Colgate.

Trivia[]

  • Billy was born during autumn, as his mother tells him in "Count on Us!" that she could buy a new bike for him for his birthday during the fall season.
  • The series never mentioned what happened to his Dad. He either died or is divorced from Billy's Mom and either doesn't have anything to do with Billy or has visitation rights where Billy has gone to visit him not seen in the series.
